Here we go……. When I woke up yesterday I was presented with twitter posts (from @MadeiraCloud), and sensational blog headlines (from SEW) stating “Google Launches Web Hosting Disguised As Page Speed Service”.

The headline got me. Since Google has not released very many technical details about the service yet, I clicked on the link….. I read the article, and to my relief the author explains that it is really a caching engine, and not a true web host. Too early in the morning for this type of excitement!!! and before coffee grrrrrr….

After reading Google’s light explanation of what the service actually is. CloudGuys would put it more into the CDN Content Delivery Network category than a web host or a cache engine.

While we await our invite for a free test of the service, or Google rolls out pricing, and signup information, Google has supplied an online testing application. At the Google Page Speed Service home page there is a link for testing a comparison of your site with, and without Google Page Speed Service enabled. No configuration changes to your site or DNS are required for these tests.

CloudGuys fired up our labs and got to work. Several of our online friends (readipress, localinsites, webshoo, hdglides, and bartrage) will be specially interested in the results.
